The term covers everything from directory profiles to a passing mention in a regional guide.
Outbound notes
Left alone, duplicate profiles spreads to sources the business never submitted to. Every entry in a directory is a minor claim about who {entity_s} is and where it trades.
Don't submit to a new directory until the existing ones agree. Citation profiles are less a marketing channel than a data layer under one. Even so, a business rarely disappears from local results overnight; it fades as its records go dated.
Field notes. Handle the high-authority sources by hand and batch the long tail afterwards.
Geographic signals audit. Nine times out of ten, the practical upshot is that record the canonical version of the primary category somewhere the operations team can find it.
